Q Q. Anru Lee writes about subways as spaces of “cultural intimacy,” “wherein the people of Taipei reiterate or reconstruct their ambiguous and contradictory relationship with the state as well as their collective identity.” (p35). What spaces in your neighborhood do the same? How are they similar or different to the subways of Taipei? What relationship between the state and our collective identity do they give us a window into?

After reading the Anru Lee’s article, it can be said that different spaces within the neighborhood are used to explain cultural intimacy. Talking about my neighborhood, it can be mentioned that there is similar space as compared to the subways in Taipei. We have a park where most of us are able to share the collective as well as the contradictory relationship. There are people coming from different backgrounds, and races and still they spend time together which can help us in understanding each other in a better way.
